Finally 500 error free

Posted by Diana Ricci on July 17, 2010 at 5:31 PM

After a complete rebuild, those nasty 500 errors are gone but we've lost a few features in the database.

The purpose of the rebuild was to downsize the core data and reduce the number of querries thus reducing the demand on our "shared" low-cost server host who didn't like all the traffic it was getting.

Every time the host was asked to do too much (like log in too many workers) or (show too many pages to too many people), it just wouldn't let you in by throwing the nasty 500.  And if you were already in and you asked it to do too much; again, you'd get the nasty error.  It only seems to like the short burst querries.  I guess logging in was too much for it, lol.  Seems this system acts similarly with just about every shared host it encounters.  It only likes to be alone on it's own server.

Some of the features we've lost is the microsoft looking drop-down menu on the left sidebar with the little plus signs.  The poor thing was the greatest.  Goodbye, wonderful sidebar!

Another feature gone is the latest uploads page (view for all) and the most viewed page.  Keywords are now a past thought and have been replaced with Tags.  Goodbye keywords!   The poor host justed couldn't handle both tags and keywords.

We also reduced the number of thumbnails, only one-size now.  No longer can you blow up that image.

I think you'll notice other options gone, like slideshows and longer page formats (more thumbnails on a page)  but hopefully not for long.

So what we're doing now is re-inputting all the content back into the database; that's Titles, Summaries and Descriptions.  For now it's just a working system with pics by company and pattern.  So everyday you will see a little more of the old content back in the system.

We're working hard for you and it's taking time but anything great takes time.

Thanks for sticking with it and being a great group!
